Donny van de Beek would offer something different to Wolves if new manager Bruno Lage can attract the Manchester United outcast to Molineux, according to journalist Luke Hatfield.

What's the story?

A recent report by Birmingham Live claimed that Lage’s charges are eager to take the 24-year-old on loan in the upcoming January transfer window.

In addition to that, the Daily Mail have also claimed that both Wolves and Everton have begun negotiations with Van de Beek, who recently changed his agent in a bid to force through a move away from Old Trafford.

The recent speculation regarding the Dutch international's potential switch to the Midlands has led to Hatfield encouraging the club's hierarchy to take advantage of his availability.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "He would offer Lage something he doesn't have in Wolves' midfield right now.

"He would offer something different. Joao Moutinho is not getting any younger. Ruben Neves obviously put in a really good performance against Everton, but we've got to see that consistently from him.

"The likes of Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss, who can play there, are not going to be quite as forward-thinking so he would offer something different, something more dynamic."

Jeff Shi must act now

In 175 appearances for boyhood club Ajax, Van de Beek bagged 41 goals and laid on a further 34 assists for his teammates, winning a domestic double in 2018/19 as they reached the Champions League semi-finals.

As a result, Van de Beek’s arrival in the Red half of Manchester was greeted with great excitement, but his time on English shores hasn't gone to plan.

The physical demands and fast-paced nature of the Premier League often looked to overwhelm the technically gifted midfielder last term, limiting him to just four starts in the top-flight throughout 2020/21.

However, on the rare occasions that he was provided an opportunity to impress, Van de Beek did show glimpses of his true potential on occasion. One such time was against Istanbul Basaksehir while on European duty, with his eye-catching showing drawing praise from former United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

“I thought Van de Beek was close to perfect. He is so unselfish, he can just fit in and play the right balls everywhere,” said the BT Sports pundit.

But the current campaign has been another source of frustration for the £22.5m-rated maestro.

Van de Beek has been awarded just 154 minutes of action in all competitions by United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term, meaning an imminent exit could be on the cards.

Therefore, Wolves' executive chairman Jeff Shi must act now, sanctioning a swoop for the creative talent and providing Lage with a top-class midfielder capable of carrying on the progress he's already made.
