Wolves: Madueke could Lage’s own Arjen Robben

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing Noni Madueke from PSV this summer and the exciting winger could be Bruno Lage’s very own Arjen Robben at Molineux.

According to 90min, Wolves are one of several Premier League sides tracking the 20-year-old this summer, with Newcastle United, Leeds United, Leicester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur also said to be interested in the youngster.

After leaving Spurs’ academy for the Netherlands, Madueke has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Eredivisie, contributing 18 goals and 14 assists in 70 appearances for the Dutch giants.

Like Madueke, Robben established himself as a left-footed right-winger at PSV, before earning his move to Chelsea, going on to enjoy a hugely successful career, featuring for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich before his retirement in 2021 after a brief spell back at boyhood club FC Groningen.

Former PSV midfielder Tommie van de Leegte was full of praise for Madueke’s ability in 2020, saying:

“He’s fast and has the capability to trick his opponent. He brings creativity and is very explosive in his actions.”

Should Wolves sign Madueke?

WhoScored suggests that the England U21 international’s main strength is in his dribbling, while he also loves to cut inside, so the similarities with Robben are clear to see.

Wolves are in desperate need of some more creativity in their attack next season after a lack of goals derailed an impressive start to the last campaign, with only Burnley, Norwich City and Watford scoring fewer than Lage’s side.

Madueke, who reportedly earns £11k per week at PSV and could cost up to £40m, popped up with three goals and three assists in just 18 Dutch top-flight appearances last season, averaging an impressive 6.97 rating from WhoScored for his performances, so he would clearly add some quality in Lage’s attack next season.

Can you guess which Wolves player scored the most goals in all competitions during the season in question? Let's start with 2010/11...

If he can go on to have anywhere near as good a career as Robben, then he would surely prove to be a quality addition at Molineux, so Wolves should do everything they can to bring in the £16.2 million-rated winger this summer.

And, in other news… Lage could unearth the next £75m talent as Wolves plot bid for “special” £20m target
