Wolves: Ornstein drops Morgan Gibbs-White update

After a superb loan spell at Sheffield United last season, it was perhaps always likely that Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White would be a man in demand this summer.

What’s the word?

His future at Molineux remains unclear, with the likes of Everton and Nottingham Forest said to be interested in signing the 22-year-old, and the Athletic’s David Ornstein has now provided the latest update on the Wolves man.

He writes that Wolves will demand around £30m for the England U21 international this summer but if he stays, Bruno Lage will look to integrate him as a first-team squad member.

Supporters will be buzzing

Gibbs-White has been limited to 86 appearances in his Wolves career thus far, in which he has managed just three goals and one assist.

However, he played a vital part in Sheffield United reaching the Championship playoffs last season, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances and winning their player of the year award, which suggests that he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

Do you want Gibbs-White to stay?

The scenario seems like a win-win for Wolves fans. Either they sell Gibbs-White and receive a significant fee for someone who has never really made an impression on the first team, or they keep a promising young player in the hope that he can continue his fine form in the Premier League next season.

Ornstein suggests that contract talks with the Englishman have not progressed since he was offered an extension at the end of last season, however, and with just two years left on his deal at Molineux, this summer could be the ideal time for Wolves to sell the 22-year-old.

Can you guess which Wolves player scored the most goals in all competitions during the season in question? Let's start with 2010/11...

If the Old Gold can convince either Everton or Forest to pay their £30m asking price, that could go a long way towards improving Lage’s squad with new signings, as they are still yet to bring anyone in this summer.

With fans no doubt desperate for new signings, but also keen to see Gibbs-White given a proper chance by Lage, they will surely be delighted with this update from Ornstein.

And, in other news… Forget Moutinho: Wolves must finalise move for “sensational” £21m gem, Lage needs him
