Wolverhampton Wanderers are a club in trouble. The Old Gold find themselves bottom of the Premier League table and new manager Julen Lopetegui faces a huge challenge ahead of the second half of the season.

The Spaniard is already eyeing up some new signings, however, as he looks to assert his own stamp on a team inherited from Bruno Lage.

The 56-year-old could sign his next David Silva as Wolves eye a move for Kang-in Lee, and this isn’t the first time the Molineux outfit have tried to lure him to England.

The Old Gold ignited interest back in 2021 and should have swooped for the player when he terminated his contract at Valencia in August 2021.

No move ever materialised and the South Korean attacking midfielder eventually joined RCD Mallorca, where he has scored three goals and registered six assists since the start of last season.

Lopetegui has reignited the club’s interest in the player recently, with a journalist close to the situation claiming Wolves and Newcastle United have asked about the player.

The 21-year-old is a diminutive creative midfielder with an excellent left foot and his style of play immediately draws comparisons to Silva, with Goal previously claiming he is South Korea's "answer" to the great playmaker. Indeed, both players began their senior careers at Valencia having progressed through the club’s youth system.

The player once had a mammoth £71m release clause at the La Liga side and there is no doubt his creative ability would allow others around him to flourish, with the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Diego Costa, and Daniel Podence all looking to boost their goal tallies during the second half of the campaign.

He has made 1.6 key passes per match this season and this natural creative ability could be crucial for Wolves going forward if he were to make the move to the Molineux. Indeed, no player at Wolves has bettered that tally in terms of chance creation throughout 2022/23, with Pedro Neto equalling that statistic.

Valencia academy director Luis Vicente Mateo dubbed the attacking midfielder as an “outstanding talent” and although it didn’t work out well for him at the Mestalla, his form at Mallorca has attracted interest from the Premier League.

Lopetegui has coached Silva before when in charge of the Spanish national team, and he will know exactly what capabilities Kang-in Lee possesses as he looks to add some attacking dynamism to a team that has stagnated this season.

A gifted creator in the middle of the park, he could well be the next great playmaker the new Wolves boss takes charge of.
