Journalist Ryan Taylor has shared an interesting update regarding Wolves' transfer activity as Bruno Lage aims to add some more new faces amid the pending arrival of Valencia's Goncalo Guedes.

What’s the news?

Ryan Taylor was speaking to GIVEMESPORT about Wolves’ transfer activity moving forward, with certain areas being a priority in terms of incoming transfers.

“I think central midfield will still be one of priority, alongside a right-sided centre-back and striker, but [Matheus] Nunes is a difficult deal to do.”

These are all positions that require urgent reinforcements, although the centre of the pitch is where Lage will be aiming to strengthen as soon as possible.

Lage needs new faces

An opening day defeat to Leeds United meant Wolves started their Premier League campaign off on a poor note, although they did dominate in large spells at Elland Road.

The club’s lack of forward options is a concern after an injury to Raul Jimenez, although this will be alleviated by the signing of Guedes for a fee of an initial £27.5m.

With Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, and Leander Dendoncker carrying the hopes in the middle of the park for Wolves, Lage knows exactly what area to look at next.

Consider the former has been linked with a move away and Moutinho's contract is expiring next summer and Lage would surely love to have some added security and potential ready-made replacements in his squad.

Matheus Nunes is one midfielder that has been linked with Wolves recently and he could prove to be a vital cog in the side's engine room, most certainly fitting the bill of potentially replacing both Neves and his midfield colleague.

He played 33 matches for Sporting Lisbon in the league last season, averaging a 7.08 rating on WhoScored, which would rank him much better than any of Wolves’ central midfielders from last term.

The only stumbling block could be the price tag, with Sporting setting a fee of around £51m if anyone wants to make a move for the midfielder.

This would eclipse Wolves’ former transfer record of £35m for Fabio Silva in 2020, one that has been a rather costly mistake following his dismal record of just four goals in two years.

With time moving on and only three weeks left of the summer transfer window, Lage will need to act fast in order to sign one of his key targets. The addition of a midfielder, particularly one like Nunes, be a move that could push the club to the next level and subsequently send a big statement out to their fellow Premier League rivals.
