Wolves: Julen Lopetegui could find his own Thierry Henry in Martin Terrier

Wolverhampton Wanderers look set to appoint Julen Lopetegui as their new manager in the coming days, and if the Spaniard is to turn around the Old Gold’s shocking start to the season, he will need some January signings.

Attacking additions will surely be a priority for the former Real Madrid boss at Molineux, considering that his new side have managed just six goals in the Premier League so far this season – the worst record in the top flight.

Therefore, the prospect of signing a player who has been likened to Premier League and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry will no doubt be an enticing one for the 56-year-old.

90min have suggested that Wolves are one of a number of Premier League clubs taking an interest in Stade Rennais star Martin Terrier, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Leeds United, Leicester City and Aston Villa having all reportedly scouted him in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old would reportedly demand a fee in excess of £30m given his superb performances in Ligue 1 this season but Wolves will undoubtedly have to spend if they want to be in the Premier League this time next year, with the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Hwang Hee-Chan and Pedro Neto all without a goal in the top flight.

So far this season, Terrier has 11 goals and four assists in all competitions, with his performances in Ligue 1 earning him a superb average rating of 7.78 from WhoScored.

For context, Ruben Neves is the top-rated player in Wolves’ squad according to WhoScored, with the Portuguese midfielder’s 7.06 average being the only rating above 6.7 this season.

Terrier also hit 21 goals in the French top flight last season so he clearly knows where the back of the net is and could be a superb addition to Lopetegui’s front line at Molineux following the World Cup.

His manager Bruno Genesio was full of praise for the attacker last season, saying:

“Martin Terrier has all the qualities of a high-level player, tactically and in his movements. He’s attacking more aggressively too.”

The 25-year-old has also spoken out about his comparisons with Henry recently, which came about as a result of his ability to glide past opponents before producing unnerving curled finishes.

He said: “That’s very flattering – Thierry Henry is one of France’s best-ever strikers. I’m a long way from that, but I do take inspiration from the best. I think the ability I have to open up my body comes naturally to me.”

Considering his incredible form in recent seasons, Lopetegui would surely love to bring him to Molineux in January, as he could be the man to help turn their woeful luck in front of goal around.
