Wolves: Kurt Zouma not an unrealistic target

Wolves journalist Luke Hatfield has offered his thoughts on whether or not a move for Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma is viable.

What’s the talk?

Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield has claimed that Kurt Zouma is not an unrealistic target for Wolves this summer. Hatfield says that he would be a really good addition to Bruno Lage’s squad, but stresses that they would not be the only team chasing his signature.

He told Football FanCast:

“If Wolves want to carry on improving after a season which was, you know, pretty poor in their respects, it’d be a really good signing – particularly if they’re going to a four at the back.

“I don’t think it‘s an unrealistic target. In the same respect, I think there’ll be a fair few teams after him, so it could be a bit of a battle if he is up for sale.”

Would Zouma be a good signing?

Lage would be buzzing

Wolves must sanction a deal for Zouma this summer as Lage would be buzzing to have the centre-back as part of his squad. Whether it is a permanent or a loan deal, the ex-Everton loanee would be a superb signing to bolster the defence ahead of next season.

In the past four Premier League campaigns, Zouma has averaged a WhoScored rating of 6.78 or higher for Chelsea, Everton and Stoke. He managed an impressive score of 7.07 across 24 appearances for the Blues in the 2020/21 campaign, playing under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

For context, Romain Saiss’ score of 6.87 was the highest of any Wolves centre-back last term, with Boly (6.75) and Coady (6.53) behind him.

Last year, ex-Chelsea boss Lampard lauded the Frenchman’s quality from set-pieces and praised his hard work on the training pitch.

“The eye-catching thing is the number of goals he is scoring from set-pieces and for me, that is a result of more confidence and more belief in himself.

Can you guess these obscure Wolves players? Here's the first one...

“He has always had the size and strength, and now you see him in all parts of the pitch really – aerially he is a real threat and he is doing his job. I think a lot of the individual improvement or development, he had injuries and because of how his career went, he has been out on loan a couple of times.

“He trains every day, he doesn’t miss a day, he wants to do extras, he wants to work, he wants to do better, and those things to me are just absolutely fundamental to how players improve. And at the minute the level he is playing at week in week out is brilliant and long may it continue – he deserves it.”

The £46k-per-week beast scored five goals for Chelsea last term, showing off the quality he can produce from set-plays as Lampard explains.

This means that he can add a goal threat to go along with his excellent defending, which is why Lage would be delighted to work with him at Molineux this year.

AND in other news, Wolves prepare bid for “all-action” £13m beast, he’s a great Neves replacement…
