As one of just three players Gareth Southgate elected not to rest during England’s 1-0 defeat to Belgium in the World Cup’s Group Stages, it’s clear the Three Lions boss is a big fan of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
But the Toffees star has come under criticism during the tournament, not least from Belgium counterpart Thibaut Courtois who mocked Pickford’s height after Adnan Januzaj’s strike curled beyond his reach in Sunday’s defeat.
And it seems England fans aren’t wholly convinced by the 24-year-old either, despite coming to the end of a promising debut season at Goodison Park.
Indeed, we recently asked Three Lions fans which goalkeeper should start in England’s first knockout clash of the tournament against Colombia and while Pickford took the majority of the votes from our poll, his 58% hardly represents a dominant winning margin.
That means 42% would be prepared to ditch Pickford for Tuesday night’s key clash, with 37% preferring Jack Butland and 5% keen to give Burnley’s Nick Pope the nod instead.
