Harry Kane will be desperate to take advantage of the chance to secure a World Cup Golden Boot when England take on Belgium in Saturday’s third-place playoff.
But having lacked the same energy and vigour in England’s knockout clashes, it’s not clear whether he’s actually fit enough to be involved – Gareth Southgate won’t want to risk the Three Lions’ greatest goalscorer for what is arguably a glorified friendly, even if Kane is willing to take that chance.
With that in mind, we asked England fans earlier this week who they think should take Kane’s place if he’s not able to start England’s final World Cup clash of the summer.
England certainly have some good alternatives: Manchester United wizzkid Marcus Rashford, Leicester speedster Jamie Vardy and Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck, who has a decent scoring record on the international stage.
And for those who took part in our poll, Welbeck was the most popular option, albeit falling just short of a majority with 49% of the votes. What other changes would you make to Southgate’s usual starting XI for the Belgium encounter? Let us know by commenting below…
